Need some inputs or advise. New to the hobby. Everything seems to be doing ok. Had the tank running for about 6 months now. No problems as of yet. Well the only thing I'm killing is the Xenia. My guess not enough nutrients. Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong. Besides the blue hippo. I do have a larger tank already purchased.

Alk 11.5
Ca 450
Mg 1450
PH 8

Dosing BRS 2 part
Dosing Red Sea color program.
Gfo and carbon reactor in sump.

are you running chem filtration?
got diverse snails?
tooth brush and siphon that brown stuff.
Id raise that light up for better spread. Use a par or lux meter to adjust.

very pretty tank!

hmm then the brown strange is just stranger. I suppose then it could be a bacterial strain.

I have a purple bonsai which started loosing color. So moved up a bit. Seems to get the coloration back some.

Anemone. Tried to move him several times. But failed. That's his favorite spot is in the back.

Cold be the flow. But tried low flow and high flow. Never fails. He moves back to the same spot

About the anemone, I've found mine like to perch where they can really get their foot stuck far down into a rock crevice. Maybe that spot has just the right sized hold for its foot? If you move 'em again, and shuffle things around a bit, there's a chance it won't be as desirable. On the other hand, the nem doesn't look too big right now. Once it gets bigger, you'll see it poking up over the rocks a lot more I'd think as it just seems to be in a little rock 'valley.' (:

Anyone else think the alk is super high? I'm surprised you haven't bleached your sps yet.
I was bleaching at 10.8 :/

@ahiggins. Yea been researching that too. Seems like everyone keeps theirs below 10. Been dialing it down some.

I used a salt that I didn't know made up at like 12 lol by the time I realized, everything in my tank had bleached. Finally 4 months later, it's all back. Lost an acro and a skimmer.
I would check into not dosing alk and letting it drop. Or look into your salt.

@ahiggins using Red Sea coral pro. When I started using it the mg was over 1600 kinda scared me a bit. Must be a bad batch.

Nope-wasnt a bad batch, thats what it normally is.
alk makes up at 11 as well. Thats the one I was using before I switched over to the blue bucket by red sea-just the regular salt

no problem :)
I think that coral pro is meant more for established aquariums that have a high alk demand...I just didnt realize/look into it at the time

Are you wanting aquascape advice? Or advice on water quality, or just a little of both? My opinion on your aquascape, if you wanted to make it a little more interesting, go for the 2 island look. Maybe a larger one on the left and smaller on the right, with some open space in the middle. Opens up some area for swimming back and forth. Your rock is all along the bottom with not very much height to it at all. You have some nice size pieces of LR in there, scale it upwards a more. It will give you more options for different types of corals that need placement in higher light and more flow areas.
