I'd like to use two containers of about 2L (1/2 gal) for kalkwasser. I'll use one at a time, and swap them. This is for a 90 gal tank. If I find that I'm not dosing enough, I'll simply use kalk in my top off water.

I've heard that 2L soda bottles have been eaten through. I wonder if this is an issue of the quality of the plastic or the thickness. I'd guess it has to do with the quality. After all, if 0.5 mm can be eaten through, then I'm sure 2 mm could be eaten through as well.

I'm thinking about one of the following containers. One is thin and the other is thicker. McMaster tends to have quality stuff, so I wonder if either would be a good choice. Can I get away with the thin one, or should I really go with the thick one? Thanks.

Why not a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. Mixed kalkwasser needs to be kept from the surrounding air as it will lose it's potency.

Any high density polypropylene container with a lid will work.

The issue with some containers (generally, polycarbonate) is that the very high pH degrades the polymer linkages themselves, and the plastic gets brittle and breaks. It's not a matter of thickness, but correct choice of material (i.e., not polycarbonate).
