Contaminated chaeto.

A friend of mine had to treat a display with copper to get rid of velvet. He had chaeto in the sump and took it out before treatment. He wants to put the stuff back into the sump. I suggested waiting 72 days at least but he’s intent on just a few weeks. How likely is the velvet to attach to the chaeto? Or are they more likely to attach to a sand bed and rock?

Anything that had water on it when it was in the tank could potentially carry velvet. I'm doubtful it could but it's always best to take the cautious approach in this hobby. So I wouldn't add it back in for the 76 days

Fallow period for velvet isn't as long as for ich...something like 6 weeks max, I believe.
