Hi all,
Naive question, but should Fritz9 have a brown slime come out when dumping the bottle? I used Fritz before and it didn't have this film that came out and covered my rocks, but this time it did--perhaps the last time I used it the film stayed in the bottle. Or is this a contaminated bottle? Sorry I don't have pictures--I quickly turkey basted as much of it out of the tank as possible.
Thanks!

my experience with Fritz is that it has a lot of brown sludge. I think it is because they mine it or use some sort of clay to prevent clumping (Reef Crystals has a little too, but Fritz is the worst I have used). That said, they say it isn't harmful. You can filter it out with a canister filter before putting in your tank (I do this with my reef crystals).

FYI BRS did a video on this... not sure if Fritz was in it.. but several other salt manufacturers were... it was interesting.

Thanks for the info. I removed as much of the sludge as I could before it got everywhere. If it were bacterial contamination, likely wouldn't matter much, but sounds like it's just an additive or component carried over from processing. Good to know!

Does anyone really turn off their skimmers for the 4-5 days that is recommended on the bottle? Seems excessive when compared to other bacteria bottles that says 3-4 hours. The hours I understand so it's not immediately skimmed out, but 4-5 seems like a long time.
