Continuing Battle With Stagnation

Toss the combo filter and get a good hang on back skimmer.
Any parameters? Recent pics? Toss your powerheads. Get bigger 1s. Lol
Look for dead snails. Your deff know they are dead when you.pull them out and smell the smell.
My advice.
D
Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, PH 8.0, SG 1.023. The only large enough skimmer that would fit behind my cover is the Aquamaxx combination unit I have; I have removed all the media now and will run it as skimmer only in the future. The 400 GPH powerheads circulate the water very well now that I have them both on continuously. There is nothing alive in the tank which doesn't have fins, and nothing dead in there ! Just three damsels.

Well, I am at a loss as to what is causing the water to stagnate in my fish-only tank. I have a 400 GPH Marineland HOB filter and two 400 GPH powerheads; still the water becomes stagnant..... shouldn't be any dead spots in the tank; the substrate (crushed coral is only like and inch deep or less.... Now making several 25% water changes to try and combat the stagnation; and adding a 300 GPH HOB filter.

What size tank? It looks large and 400gph would not even be close to enough flow. You need bigger better powerheads.

I have two on my 80g that are controllable but can go over 2000gph.

If money is an issue get some jebaos Sow8 or such. Then you can dial them in.

It is a 60 gallon tank; 48 x 24 x 12. Two 400 GPH powerheads isn't enough for that little tank ???

That is pretty low turnover really, but it is fish only. Glad you found the source of the issue, def wouldn't call the water stagnant with the powerheads going.

That’s low for 60g. Even if it’s fish only I would run good flow to keep debris being filtered out.
