looking for a dependable controller not sure if wifi is needed using a rkl now so all i need is lights, heater not sure what else. I know apex classic is fazing out so is 2016 only choice, not sure i need to check system by phone, have wifi lights and dont use cloud

It doesn't really seem like you need to update based on your criteria.

Will need a new unit because of moisture exposure just wondering is a classic a depenable plarfore without wifi and bells and whistles. No complaints on rkl or plus but programing is clunky. Worried pex is done with classic and moved on

Everything still works with classic and jr except the trident. That needs the 2016

A new RKL is $120 or $200 with ph. The Apex has more to play with but that definitely comes at a cost. IMO if you planning to move way up and get an Apex package, the Profilux looks better overall to me even though its realistic starting price is steep.

If you are up for minimal DIY, check out reef-pi in the diy forum. Low cost and modular, only need to add the modules you want.

Based on what you said your needs are control lights and heater. Don’t need wifi. I would go with the GHL ProfiLux mini. It will do everything you need and more.
