Controller on a 60g ?

Would a controller even be of any benefit on a 60-gallon tank?

I am running an ato, heater, skimmer, lights, and pump of course. Just curious if it would be of any benefit.

It depends what you want to do with it. You could see pH trends and the temp away from home and have a way to turn things on and off or dosers/testers hooked through one, etc. You could do different things with float valves.

They are absolutely not needed but can be helpful in day to day tasks or when on vacation.

I have a hydros on a 48, but I guess it depends what you want to "control" it's great for simple stuff too.

A tank this size is manageable manually and a controller would simply do for you what a household timer would do. You can dose two part and run a controller on heater such as inkBird or Renco

As others said, it would be usefull, but not necessary. Even if you start dosing with a pump, most of them have their proprietary smartfone apps. Controlling heater with Apex or other Aquarium monitor would give you additional benefit, but you can also use Heater controller, which is less expensive. Overall recommended, but not essential.

I have a hydros on a 32. Its not needed at all, but if cost is not an issue and you want to buy yourself a neat little toy, then why not?

Absolutely worth it. There are very few tanks that wouldn’t benefit from the hobbyist being alerted if something goes wrong.

Even if you don’t want control, $300 gets an Apex Jr with full monitoring of temperature and pH. I believe it also gets leak detection. That’s some of the cheapest insurance out there
