After 24 years as a cichlid tank, I drained, sanded, and polished this old scratched up 90 gal acrylic, and set up my first saltwater tank as a FOWLR. I’m just 9-weeks in and loving it. Still just got my two little cinnamon clowns and and Kupang damsel. Will be adding more fish soon.

Wow! You did a really nice job on cleaning up the acrylic! your aquascape looks really great too! Looking forward to seeing more pics! What other fish do you plan on adding?

Thanks. Restoring the tank was a hard, but rewarding job. Here’s my full wishlist.
Yellow Watchman Goby, Royal Gramma Basslet, Blackline Blenny, Pajama Cardinalfish, Purple Firefish, Zebra Barred Dartfish, Saddle Valentini Puffer, Coral Beauty Angelfish, Purple Dottyback, Carpenter’s Flashy Wrasse, Longnose Hawkfish, Kaudern’s Cardinalfish, One Spot Foxface, Pearlscale Butterflyfish.

My cabinet is actually pretty small. I went with the Trigger Systems Sapphire 26. Really wanted the 34, but it wouldn’t quite fit. Had to go with the Eshopps 120 skimmer for the same reason.

Trigger sump is nice I’m hoping to do the 36 when I upgrade. Were you using this sump on the cichlid tank also?

Nah. I had an old wet/dry trickle filter on it. It did ok for fresh water. I had that tank for 24 years and never added any fish after original stock. I kept the water perfect and they bred like rabbits. Took hundreds out over the years.

I’m in same boat you were. 120 gallon cichlid tank right now that I eventually want to convert. Few of the Cichlids keep spawning but I just let them get eaten when they hatch. I used to be big into the cichlids and even started several tanks to save the fry. Now I’m more into reefing. It’s an addiction. Lol
