Converting from freshwater to saltwater

I have a 30 gallon AIO unit that I just removed my African cichlids from and put them into a 125. My 30 still has water, working filter, biomedia, and sand substrate in it. I dose the tank every other day to keep the cycle alive. I was going to rinse everything in RODI water and try to retain as much beneficial bacteria as possible, then refil with saltwater in hopes of ending up with a cycled saltwater tank. Am I way off base with my thinking, or is it possible?

Freshwater bacteria will not survive in saltwater and vice versa.
You will have to cycle again.
