Converting Hanna ULR Phosphorous to Phosphate

Hi y'all, happy Monday!!

I did a phosphate check via Hanna Phosphorous ULR checker. The reading came at 76.

Based on BRS' conversion procedure ... I converted that to .230166 ppm (76×3.066/1000 = 0.230166). Does the conclusion sound OK?

With regard to the phosphate amount - I am running a Santa Monica Algae Scrubber which has started growing decent algae. Will keep monitoring and reporting...

Got it. How do y'all keep your phosphates low? I am not sweating yet, but my bioload is also miniscule. I need to find a way to get it further in check before the fishes arrive.

I use GFO when needed. I keep mine down. But I barely even use it. But if I need it I got it. Be careful useing it so it don't strip it to 0

Its correct. If you have an apex then it can do it for you.

I do have an Apex. Do you have a link to how to use the Apex to convert Phosphorous to Phosphate?

Do you have to write a couple lines of script for that?

Go to apex fusion. On the screen right hand side there are parameters under the header "Log measurement". Click which one you want to log and follow the onscreen directions.

You're welcome I have a screenshot saved on my phone so I can reference it quickly.
Hahah I did the same. But upon a later suggestion by Anirban from this thread, I started using the Apex instead. It solves two birds with one stone.

Essentially - if you have an Apex Fusion, then you can use the "Log Measurements" feature (top left, with an icon of a conical flask) ... by using this feature, you can ask Apex to save your measurement for analysis, and also convert from Phosphorous pbm to Phosphate ppm - in one go. Pretty handy.
 
I just use my own finagle factor. I multiple the result by 3 and divide 1000. A reading of 1 converts to 1 * 3 = 3 / 1000 = .003 ppm. It isn’t exact but good enough.

Understood PatW.

Seems like a lot of reefers are using the Hanna ULR Phosphorous testers. Is the reasoning that BRS showed it to be more accurate than the Hanna ULR Phosphate checker, or is there some other reason?
 
The phosphorous detector is a bit more sensitive than the phosphate detector. That is it can detect phosphates at a lower threshold and that is important.
