In need of tank
In my never ending quest for a MH lamp I like, I am thinking of trying something new. Right now I have a 400W XM 20K SE over my 30x30x24 tank. I have a LA3 reflector which does a nice job at spreading the light out over the 30" width. I mostly keep zoa/paly/lps, so I'm first of all wondering if my 400W is overkill. Also, I recently got a 14K Hami DE setup for a frag system and I really like the colors it gives. I'm thinking I can save myself some electricity by stepping down to a 250W system, and perhaps changing to DE lamps for the color I want. How hard or how would you change over the SE LA3 reflector to take DE lamps? Would I just need to mount a DE socket in the reflector somehow and then install a glass shield somewhere in the reflector? Or would I be better off just getting a new reflector if I go with the DE setup?
