Convict tang and Purple tang

Hi guys

i have a medium Convict tang in my tank and today i got my self a small purple tang and when i put it in my tank my convict started to push the purple tang and try to bite it. do he do this beacuse he want to show hows the boss or will this be a problem in the end ?

A problem anyway
If they dont take out blades a little problem resolve in few days
If they take out and use blades
A big problem

Convict is trying to assert dominance. I think purple might be able to stand it's ground in a few days.

I had the same problem... bought a yellow tang and he was in the tank for about maybe 3 weeks then I purchased a yellow eye kole tang... Let me tell ya!!! These 2 battled it out for a good 2 weeks... just brutal!!! I was really worried, but they are BEST buds now... cruise all over the tank together... yellow tang still gives the kole tang a few tail swipes every now and then, but they are hommies now...

Keep an eye on them and there is a good chance they will sort the hierarchy out. Keep in mind that while the aggression is happening there is the potential for injury and infection to occur. I'd recommend spending at least 5-10 minutes observing the two fish everyday to better understand how the relationship is playing out, i.e. you can tell if its subsiding, ramping up in aggression, remaining the same etc. But more importantly it will give you time to visually inspect both fish for signs of injury or infection. Doing so will make you better prepared to attempt to medicate or have confidence to make the judgement call on removing a fish due to lack of compatibility.
