Hey there, my tank issues continue. OR, I'm paranoid.

My corals remain extremely healthy, I did a while back have a hammer die of brown jelly after being damaged.

Here's my question, what causes corals to remain healthy and only some fish to get sick?

It does NOT look like ICH, actually it doesn't look like anything. Thompson my clown died, we though he had a bacterial infection, dipped him in Lugols a few times, he did better then just disappeared.

We waited a few weeks, dosed the tank for those weeks with Lugols, no other fish got sick or died.

We then bought a pair of ocellaris clowns, acclimated, then one died and the other appears to be healthy. Now one of my Chromis is missing, and my Convict tang "Leland" although looking healthy has a small spot on his side.

Here is my params.

Salinity: 1.024-5
Nitrates always test super high on my kit but good at my LfS- i need a new kit but mine says-20-40ppm
Nitrites-0ppm
Ammonia-0ppm
Ph- was 8.0, I added a buffer, it's 8.3 now

Temp is 78-80 degree I can't tell

I am out of ca test
Will have it checked today and buy a new one.

We run our lights from 3pm to 11 pm(no clue at what) the light is a ocean revive.

I feed phytofeast every other day
Omega one super veggie flakes 1x daily
Everyone in a while put a veggie strip in for my tangs, they don't seem to like them very much.

I also target feed many of my corals with Piscene Mysis every 2-3 days.

We do 20-25% water changes weekly.

It's a 92 gallon bowfront with
a 20 gallon sump, a "something" octoprotien skimmer.

Here is my livestock and coral list-
2 green chromis
1 convict tang
Clown tang
1 large tomato clown that's moving out today (he's mean)
1 fire fish
1 ocellaris clowns
1 dragonet
1 warpaint goby
1 eb blueclaw crab
1 emerald crab

1 torchEuphyllia glabresens
2 finger leather Sinularia notanda
2 separate heads candy cane
Green button polyps
Red bubble tip anemone
Green tip anemone
Bubble coral plerogyra sinuosa
Acan Acanthastrea echinata
Open brain coral Trachyphyllia geoffroyi
Duncan Duncanopsammia axifuga
Hairy mushroom
Rhodactis indosinensis
Mushroom Corallimorphs
Pineapple coral Blasto Blastomussa merleti
Green hammer coral
Euphyllia fimbriata
Zoas-Parazoanthus axinellae
2 watermelon
Eagle eye Zoas

Below is a picture of my tang. Maybe the spot is nothing. You

Well first off, I don't think Lugol's (iodine) does anything useful for fish. Some of your soft corals (like xenia) may like it. ;)

There are many diseases which afflict fish only but not corals/inverts. And not all will display obvious physically visible symptoms. Ich & flukes, for example, can harbor in the gills out of sight. And then many times a bacterial infection can be a secondary ailment to a preexisting parasitic or worm infestation. The fish's natural immune system is already stretched to it's limit fighting off parasites and/or worms, and that's when a harmful strain of opportunistic bacterium can strike. More fish with ich probably die of a bacterial infection than the parasite itself.

Do you QT any of your fish before placing them in the DT?

My guess is aggression. You have a "mean" tomato clown and the more docile ocellaris clowns are disappearing. Rarely will two species of clown live happily ever after in an aquarium of that size.

We dont quarantine, just acclimate. That's our next project.

I know tangs are very prone to infection, ICH, and bacteria, and both my tangs look great except this one spot. I'm hoping its aggression from Mr. Sassy pants tomato clown. We can't catch him or we would banish him to the LFS to terrorize them.

Ya he's a jerk, he just bit me. Also, my little occellaris is super cool, he eats out of my hand, so he's for sure not going anywhere.

PS, took a water sample to the LFS, nitrates 0! Our test kit was bad, so we got a new one.

I lost an Achilles once when it randomly got two white blotches on its belly. Over the course of a few days it worsened. Eventually it could barley swim and died. Very strange. The other fish were fine through this process.

Ok here's what's more weird. Brown splotch, GONE! He's back to normal which makes me think it was bruise.???

So, came home today and Betty the butt hole clown killed my Ocellaris Jackson. He appeared to be bit for little bits of his skin off! He got the boot!

Both the tomato clown and clown tang are known to be very agressive to new additions! My tomato Diablo attacks everything that comes into her territory. I would suggest qt to make sure new additions are healthy then perhaps the use of an acclimation box to watch for aggressive behavior.

Amen to that! So the clown went to the LFS and we are keeping our Clown Tang! He's very sweet and peaceful (so far). Him and our convict tang Leland are new found buddies and swim around side by side. Very cute.

We made an executive family decision that we aren't going to add more fish. We seem to fare better with our corals and inverts.;). Safer for the fish.
