Convict tang very agressive

Ok so the mirror has ticked off all my wrasses and anthias. I mean they’re flashing which is cool but isn’t that stressful to them?

Well the convict tang found the mirror and he’s been going at it for the last hour non stop.

I also added some more rocks but I didn’t rearrange my scape just added more caves. I made “mounds” in the sand as well to create tiny hills.. don’t know if that helped but I did it anyways.
Yellow tang is finally roaming around in peace.

Plan on using it long term. I'd move it to the side panel so it's not obstructing your view. Otherwise you will be tempted to remove it

Hello,

my convict tang is incredibly aggressive towards my powder blue and yellow tang. They don’t want anything to do with him, but he constantly chases them and nips at the yellow tang.

I’m surprised really.
There is tons of food, convict tang is super fat. Not sure what to do… add more rock?

I'm having this very same problem with mine!!!! Definitely following!!

I had to put mine into my 300g sump with a yellow foxface and an aptasia eating file fish. Those and some baby mollies are the only thing that mine won't bully.

@Max93 - Not sure if you are still on this thread - but very interested in how it all ended up??
My Convict is not the biggest in the tank, but is by far the most aggressive and he is at the mirror but will bail the mirror and chase my atlantic blue which is smaller, however I added a big yellow tang, a foxface and the atlantic all at once. The convict is being a nightmare - just wondering if it got better for you? and how long before it did?

Yeh WOW!!!! I don't have a 300g but have been tossing up what to do!
I have to say I'm a bit taken back by it all!!!! I have a blue hippo who has been there with the convict and much bigger than the convict but he's not to worried at all. They are heavily fed at the moment, plenty of nori etc.
He's having goes at the wrasse and all of the other smaller ones in the tank!!! its like he's lost the plot??
At the mirror a heaps but sets eyes on the atlantic and off they go for a lap.
Not as many laps as before though, and the atlantics fins aren't looking battered at all?

My convict Tang killed my copperband butterfly and my double saddled butterfly. I'm currently trying to sell it before introducing my Red Sea Butterfly.

Late to the party, but I have found fish loose almost all aggression when they are fed enough to grow a few inches a year and have ample places to hide where they can totally get away from everything. The hiding places need to be more like piled rock where they can not be seen and less like the caves and arches that humans like to make for them.

My tangs eat mysis, spirulina flake, Caribbean Marine Mix from BSD and NLS pellets. The purple, yellow and chocolate have been at full size for many years, fowleri is growing and will need a larger home in a year or two. I just got a galapagos sawtail that they all welcomed it with no issues. I have a convict that eats flakes out of my hand and is a good tankmate. My queen angelfish is the jerk, but it only plays around the new fish for a few hours before it leaves them alone.

The mirror helped no more issues. Mirror has been removed and I put it back on periodically.

@Squidward i can’t believe how aggressive he is! I would believe it now after seeing it all.. definitely not on the placid side which I thought or seemed to read
@jda i have been just stocking the tank with all that goodness, over feeding really.. I have to water change every couple of days at the moment because it’s a cloudy haze! Lol but I have just also added a ton more rock to help and slow down chasing and more hiding spots possibly the bioload
@Max93 ive added the mirror and has seemed to slow down a bit but still has the bursts of chasing.. I was just wondering how it all ended for you, because I don’t want to have to choose. But good to know it’s worked out! Gives me hope!

Well, here’s the thing - chasing, I don’t really care fish are fish right? They chase each other. But he doesn’t attack anyone anymore, he just chases and leaves them alone but all the fish do it too. My yellow tang actually got bigger than the convict tang already so they just don’t do anything anymore that is cause for concern.
I decided to not add anymore tangs though, I think 4 in a 220 is probably enough, anymore and I think I’ll have issues. I’m focusing on adding smaller fish now.

everyone looks very happy, I feed them a lot, and mirror is placed only when I notice that they’re acting crazy which is rare now, or if I’m going to be out of town I just put the mirror just in case.

Funny is , I just ordered two more today from LA myself arriving next week. My current one is a Model citizen although I have heard of some with aggression.
How do your new ones look? What size are your new ones ?
I spoke to fishroom and they said eating pellets and Mysis and are shipped at 1.021 water.

If your new one is a continued problem child, Hit me up- I may take it depending on location. I currently have 19 tangs.

Mines doing pretty good he just likes to challenge the yellow tang but otherwise peaceful. Keep him out a mirror on side of glass.

Both of mine are considered large but are about 4". One arrived looking DOA with a bad lip but it stated doing fine as soon as I opened the bag and added my water.

LA credited me for one due to the condition it arrived but they are both in my sump. I normally leave them in there for a week and make sure they are eating ok before transferring them into to DT

I have a permanent mirror on one side of my tank either way for my passer angel. Works wonder.

Your response didn't seem aggressive to me. I completly agree with what you said, Convict tangs are rarely aggressive. They are usually the ones being beat up.
