Cook corals for coloration

Cooking is an imprecise term that is used to describe the grow out process of a coral introduced into a Reefers tank.

Getting the parameters right for a coral, and stable, (light intensity, photo period, nutrient levels, flow, temperature, and prayer) are often used during the "cooking process" with the goal of growing a vibrant colored, fast growing, and valuable coral that others will pay huge amounts of money to then acquire a frag of the "cooked" results.

Cooking corals by using photographic trickery to sell corals is similar but less admirable.

The term cooking may have come from either a kitchen metaphor, ie "home cooked meal" or it may have arisen from the slang term used to describe illegal drug production in makeshift chemical labs? The latter term should be applied to the photographic manipulation while the former Mom's Kitchen metaphor belongs solely to the hobbyist grow out process. :)

I am glad someone explained it. I'm sure OP wasn't thinking about zoa soup.

cooking means your lights to bright, and you bleach them out, you will be able to differentiate context between mine and the above definition

Whats the emergency? Are your corals bleaching/ melting?
Nope no emergency lol it was saying I didn’t put any prefix so I had to choose emergency. Thank you everyone for explaining me this. If I want better coloration should I raise uv?

Depends, on current intensity. Mine had to much and love the huge drop in intensity. There is a balancing act to done. To much ruins everything, and its always better to have less then more on lighting provided your light intensity matches the depth required.
