Can I use the water left over from a water change to cycle some rocks in a bucket to add to my tank later?

Nice. Now to decide if I want more.

For what it's worth, it's a bit better to call this process curing instead of cooking. If you were to literally cook the rock that could lead to some very very bad things and I've read threads of people going to the hospital because they mis-understood and took the term literally.

On that idea, for years, I buy extra LR and microwave it for a minute or two depending on the size of the rock. Once cooled, I drop it in my sump to recolonize and have it ready to go when needed. More than anything else I feel confident that nothing detrimental is getting into my DT.

I've boiled them before outside but that's a little different. Had to kill some nasty hitchhikers.

Yeah outside in a fish boiler is certainly a little different. Read a post about a dude, his wife and their newborn, think his rock had some zoas on it or something. Think their dog showed the first signs, then his wife and baby got sick. Definitely not worth the risk of doing it inside regardless. It only takes the wrong thing once. I remember the hospital had to get the CDC involved and everything. Was not pretty.

Nothing vinegar can't kill. IMO, literally cooking rock is OCD. :)

@OP...I dig the rock work.

Thank you. Only looking at more so I'll have more options as I add more frags. I just started and I want more and more.
