Hi everyone,

So I was lucky enough to receive a lot of established live rock from a tank breakdown for free. i received these in salt water so rock has not had a chance to dry out.
i have a lot of vermitid snails on there so i am currently cooking the rock in a bucket with new saltwater a power head and a heater.
my plan is to leave this there (with a lid on) for 6 weeks in the hope anything living on there will starve of nutrients i.e vermitid.

just wondering at the end of the 6-8 weeks can i place this rock in my already established reef? i plan on taking my old rock out and placing the new rock in there. is there any chance this will upset my tank or will i expect to go through a mini cycle?

any help is appreciated as i have never done this before. I watched a video on YouTube cooking live rock by melev if I am not mistaken, I am unsure if this will cause a cycle or not

thanks

Over the course of the 6 week saltwater soak in your bucket, monitor your ammonia and nitrate levels. If at the end of 6 weeks you have 0 ammonia and detectable nitrates, you should be good to go.
