Just wanted to share a picture of some 'plating' coralline .... have a couple rocks where it is really going to town and I think it is pretty neat!

Very nice! Like mini Monitporas. How old is that rock/tank?

Thanks for sharing!

Very cool - the plating variety shows up rarely. I've seen most of it under PC lighting. Just out of curiousity, what lighting are you running on your aquarium?

The rock is about 2 years old. Until 2 months ago it was under a metal halide/pc combination fixture. It is now under an led/t5 fixture .... it is a 60" fixture on a 72" tank and the rocks that have it growing on them are towards the ends of the tank so getting a bit less light. The picture above is the end only of a pretty decent size rock ..... and since the tank transfer and new light the entire rock is being covered in it. I was surprised at how quickly it has taken off ....the flatter surface of this rock has a patch about 6" x 8" that is totally encrusted.

Never thought I could like coralline so much! I was actually thinking of trying to frag some for my other tank!

I definitely think you should propagate that coralline, its gorgeous looking stuff. I've seen it before on LR but rarely in that density...its impressive that the growth is only 2 months!

Would be cool if you could get them to grow on frag rocks and distribute them to other reefers.

Do you think the explosion is due 100% to the lighting change? Any changes in habits that went in tandem with the tank transfer/coralline growth?

I really don't know why it has taken off so quickly. No real changes of habit .... changes other than the light have been that my alk/calcium is a bit higher in the new tank and the nutrients are still a touch higher ..... I was running undetectable nitrate and phosphate of .01 in the old tank. Since the transfer I've been running nitrates about 5 and phosphates about .04-.06 - for some reason I haven't been able to get them any lower yet. Not getting too worked up about it since my corals actually seem to have more vibrant color and the coralline has been growing like crazy.

I was thinking about trying to set some small frag rocks around the base and see if it would spread onto it ..... if I'm successful I'll sure be happy to share!

Wow, you have a ton - very very cool. Have you tried propagating it at all? And what kind of lights are you running??

No I never have but will now that it has been mentioned. It started out the first year and a half under a 150w MH and the last year and a half under a 4 bulb T5 fixture.

Looks nice. I wish I could find some coraline to seed my tanks around here. Wanna mail some scrapings or rubble to Ft Hood, Texas?

If I can get some growing on some rubble .... I'll be happy to mail you some! Not sure if scrapings would really do it? Maybe I'll try seeding another tank with some and see if it works.....

that thing must be a calcium hog

I'm guessing it is .... but with everything else in the tank growing like a weed right now too - hard to say how much I can blame on it!

Thats very nice, that color i bet POPS under some LEDs

It really does .... I tried taking a pic of it under just the leds but just couldn't quite capture it ..... my photography skills aren't great to start with and me and the camera seem to have a hard time with led!

Thanks that would be great. There are a few places that sell scrapings to seed tanks. I never bought it because I always got used rock. I started with dry and man made rock so now I need coraline.

Well, I tried scraping some - and it just sort of disintegrated on me! So, if I can get some started on some rubble pieces placed around the rocks it's growing on I will update this thread or pm you!

Thank you. I've heard of people using frag plugs or even scrapings from glass cleaning.

I'll be patiently waiting. Lol
