I have a 29g Biocub with a coralife skimmer and stock lighting. Lately my tank has been hitting temps well into the 80s. Just today alone it hit 88. I'm beginning to worry about my corals and fish with the way the tank keeps heating up so quickly. Is there anyway I can keep my tank cooler without spending a lot of money on a cooling system? Also I do not the AC in my house and the house ha been hot lately. Any ideas on how to keep my tank cool would be greatly appreciated.

Does your biocube have the florescent lights. If so switching them out with leds will help a lot

I think it does. Would keeping that one light off for some of the day help with keeping it cooler?

You can also freeze some r/o water in some sort of container or zip lock bag and float it in your tank.

It will help for sure...thing is your corals need light. Had a friend with same tank and same issues. Those lights get seriously hot and the fans are insufficient.

I'm going to replace those bulbs for sure temp in the tank was up to 91 today so I had to shut the light off for the day. I'm going to try the frozen water in a bag trick to cool it off until I can replace everything.

If you plan on switching cfl out for leds. Steves leds and rapid led has kits that will be a direct fit for your hood.

If your handy you could also diy some lights. That's what I did for my friend and removed hood altogether. Ended up hanging them above tank. More evaporation, better gas exchange, and her corals look much better now too.

Thanks for the info. I will check that place out for sure.

I've had the same problem on my 36 bow front and use a variety of methods frozen RODI I 20 oz. soda bottles ,keep the tank lid open, standfan blowing on tank and a JBJ C-Breeze Clamp On Air Blower that works extremely well. It was not expensive and the resulting evaporation will drop the temp several degrees. Good Luck
