I have a 32.5 gallon Fluval Flex Saltwater mixed reef tank. I was wondering what the best item to cool it would be besides using a chiller. The dimensions of the tank are roughly 32.5L x 15W x 15H inches. Ideally I am looking for something that could run automatically, such as a fan with a temperature sensor. The hottest my tank would realistically get would be around 85-87F. Thanks for any help.

Check out my post on EcolibriumReef, a DIY Arduino controller.
I am using it on my 120 gal, 4x2x2 with two computer cooling fans and my water temperature is always under 81° year round. Nice thing about using fans for cooling is that water evaporation takes away heat regardless of the surrounding temperature with very little energy usage compared to a chiller. It would be great if you have an auto top-off system, which is also a function of EcolibriumReef. You can find more information on GitHub

You find a soultion? I added a second light and having the same issue, temp getting at 84 at the highest right now.

Check this thread out.

I added a Petzilla chiller fan to the side of the tank. However, I don’t use the lid for my tank so I don’t think that would work for you if you use the lid.

What lights are you using? Yea I still have the lid with 2 lights
I have 2 AI prime 16 hd. They work really nicely and they fit perfect spaced out in the slots next to the overflow. I was also able to modify the lid to make it fit over the overflow box.

I was just recommended the ai primes. Hrmmmm I was leaning towards the photon v2. But that looks good and we have the same tank.

I also like not having to remove the lights when I do anything in the tank (cleaning, coral placement, rearranging things, etc.).

It recently started getting warmer here in Illinois. I imagine I’ll be taking the fan off by September and put a heater back in.

Yep I'm in Chicago. I've been using frozen bottles of water to keep me in around 80-81. I also drilled holes in the lid lol.

Same. I used frozen bags of water when I did water changes before getting this fan lol.
