Can I use bottled and dead zooplankton to feed my pod culture instead of having to culture phyto too?

That is a great question that I don’t know the answer too. It is however pretty easy to just put some live phyto into a container with a pump on a window seal.

So you are wanting to feed your pods, dead pods?

No? It is zooplankton. Here are the ingredients in order. Water, sodium chloride, acetic acid, euphausia Pacifica, Artemia, rotifer, ascorbic acid, citric acid and astaxanthin

Yes you can...the better the quality of phyto will mean feeding less. I find the stuff you can purchase at the chain stores takes alot to make the water "green" but if i order copepod feast or get quality phyto from the lfs ot takes alot less.

We prefer to feed all of our copepods phytoplankton. Out of the 3 species we work with (Tigriopus californicus, Apocyclops panamensis, and Parvocalanus crassirostris), only the Parvocalanus need to be fed live algae. This copepod is a pelagic species and is too delicate for reef aquariums, but the other two are very hardy and will eat dead phytoplankton. I could see Tigriopus, and other Harpacticoid copepods, eating this zooplankton concoction.
