At what level are they considered too much? I have the little white ones all over the glass, floating in the column, and big ones in the sand all over the place. I know they're beneficial but I have never had this many in a tank and was curious as to whether leave them be or buy a fish that eats them to keep them in balance.

Well to me a high copepod and amphipod populations mean your tank probably is a little dirty. They live on algae and detritus, remove them and the population will decline. Adding phyto to the tank also can make populations explode.

I've never heard of there being too many pods, they are beneficial as food and as CUC.

I have no algae blooms, except coralline only, tank is crystal clear except all the pods flowing in the column and on my glass.

I guess what I'm asking is do I need to add anything to keep the population in check? Nothing in my tank eats them.

Im pretty sure most if not all fish will eat a few occasionally but I don't think you need to add a few just to keep them in check. Like everyone said, they are beneficial. However a nice red Mandarin would look nice lol and sure help with the "problem".

When I had a mandarin, I was able to train it to also eat frozen. It even ate from a turkey baster.

Mandarins can be weened over to pellets and frozen. I used a baby food jar laying in its favorite grazing area with new life spectrum pellets in the bottom. Got a red and a target mandarin eating foods this way

How do you do that?

a 6line wrasse will munch on them and they will eat flake and pellet.

I have a pod explosion also, but I know my take is a little dirty. I feed heavy and have no skimmer, need to up my weekly water changes to 20%. My pods are so bad I've watched them gang up on pellets that float to close to the rock and take it down. It's a little freaky.

i have yet to brave the world of mandarins yet...are they really that easy to train over? I've seen videos but from what i research its still a crapshoot as to whether they will train over.

IMO, mandarins are fairly easy to convert to eat frozen. However, I think it is important not to solely rely on a mandarin eating frozen and pellet. They should still be supplied with an ample amount of pods in order to thrive. Mandarins eat constantly and the aquarium needs to be able to meet these needs.
