I would say a year+ will get you an established population, along with established water quality. I think it’s a minimum of 6 months worth of dosing pods, to get that nice established population. Although, I have been dosing for 20 odd months and still see no sign of pods, I know they’re in there somewhere but I do also have two Halichoeres wrasse, a copperband and a Lubbock fairy wrasse that munches on them.

Hi, I've been adding copepods to the reef for maybe 4 months, long before the Mandarin moved in. I'm still adding them every week . Can never see any with a flashlight at night so I'm supposing that I carry on adding them every week until that happens? The Mandarin was raised on frozen food but I would still like the reef to be self sufficient in pods. Is this possible with a Mandarin already in there?

I think so - I have 2-3 pod eaters in a 20g tank (1 will be removed when she’s older) and they’re constantly scouring the tank so, there is most likely pods in there I just never see them!
