Who else strains out Copepods from the packets they can come in from your LFS ? NH3 through the roof it the water they come in (Salifert test)

I’ve always done it , the water they come in it’s terrible and people with a smaller setup (say a 60L) could easily cause parameter issues

Absolutely, I try not to add water of any kind from an lfs.
They come in 7” sealed packets …… I randomly tested the water they are in a while back and I was shocked

Have you considered setting up a small grow out tank. They're easy to raise, especially if you grow your own phyto. You'd save tons of money.

Yeah I’ve considered it , I’ve possibly got 1000s already , but I always grab a few bags when I visit my lfs lol

I also raise microworms. Micros are probably the easiest live food I culture. Very tiny but fish (including mandarins) and corals love them. They can remain alive in saltwater for several hours at least.

Never bothered to empty the water from the algae barn ones. Seems silly. Such a small amount of water shouldn't have a drastic effect. Putting your hands in the tank probably has a worse effect.

More pointed towards people who maybe add packet pods to tanks under 100L , it’s a packet of NH3 and could cause issues

I suppose it also depends on the source of the pods. I'd be more concerned about adding a pest than anything. Caution isn't silly.
