So I have a 180 gallon sump that has 3 7” filter socks. Ever time I change them I find a lot of copepods in the socks. Does anyone take the time to pick them out and return the to the fuge? I have a few times but I can’t decide if it’s a waste of time.

I had lots of pods in my refugium (after the filter socks) and in the DT down among the rocks. I had two 4" filter socks and I never saw may pods in my socks at all!

Somehow they make it into my overflows and down to the socks. I know it’s not a lot when it comes to pods but I feel like there is around 100 or so in the three socks when I change them.

Ya I find them in my sock to got a single 7' n find a few i try to turn inside out and take em out

Haha, I do the same, I turn my sock inside out and shake the bottom into a little bit of aquarium water and just dump it back into the tank to give the fish a little treat.

I was just slurping up pods with a turkey baster this morning.. When I pull a sock I just turn it inside out and hold it over a small container, the water draining from the sock will create a inch or so of water in the container and most always there are a few big pods swimming around in there.. If I see any other visible ones On the sock I’ll scrape them into the container then suck them all out with a turkey baster and put them back in the tank. I don’t make any big production out of it but if I can salvage a few with each sock cleaning it adds up.

I always have a bunch of amphipods in my sock when i change it. Yes, i take the time to pick them out and put them back in the tank. Doesn't take long... but feel bad sending them down the drain.

I dump them down the drain. If you get that many of them in your socks, your system is likely loaded and removing them won't hurt.

I failed my sensitivity class and think of them as bugs. I don't feel bad watching them take the water slide to the sewer.

I add a little butter in a pan and fry them up for a nice treat. Bring them over, ill make a nice snack!

I'm sure the larger ones get stuck, but the majority will be on your LR. I don't ever sit there picking them out, just like I don't worry about them when I clean my sand or perform water changes.

Sure some get lost, but 99% will live and thrive.

Thanks guys. Some good ideas for sure. I have a dinner date with neo, copepod scampi

Just cleaned out my filter sock...hundreds of amphipods thanked me for a second chance at life!

That is a lot of pods ! May I have some ?
That was only about 2/3 of what was in the filter sock! If you know how to ship them so they'll live, I'll send some!

I added about 5-10 to my coral QT one and then i ended up with a load of them in there as well.

Well That's good of You to offer ! I was just joking really. Mostly out of envy !
