Great question. These are actually cultured as mono-cultures with only new saltwater, copepods, & nannochloropsis phytoplankton. Here is an article to exactly how I have had my cultures set up since 2004! The only difference is I grow my own phyto.

In my opinion, copepod cultivation may make an important contribution in home aquaculture, when fish fry are too diminutive to eat rotifers as a first food.
