Hello everyone, I am hoping I have this in the correct forum area if not please mods could you move it for me to the correct one. I am wondering about my system not having any Copepods in it, it is around a 4 month old tank and I was told I should have them by now, I have a 60 gallon tank with a 4 bulb tt5 ho light on it 60 ish lbs of live rock, and I use a hob skimmer and a canister filter as I don't have room in my apartment to store all of the stuff out side the stand to allow for a sump. I don't know if that would make a difference or not, I have looked at random times for them on my bed after lights out, generally starting around a 1 hour mark after they go out, now if it makes a difference I just recentely started testing alk and calc, I was a fish only tank for the beginning and didn't plan on corals until the wife saw them so I am now testing and making adjustments. I found out my alk and calc were not where they should have been so I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I understand each tank is different but was wondering if it was true that I should have them in my tank and I should be able to see them after the lights go out or not. I take a flash light and look on the sand bed for them but don't see them. One other thing I just thought of is that I have a mix of sand and CC for the bed, CC being around the intakes for the canister filter. I didn't want the sand to get into the filter which I realized after running it for a week that it wouldn't have anyways, chalk it up for learning as you go unfortunately plus it gives it a bit of a different look then just the sand alone. I have been trying to figure this out and cant find a answer I can trust out on the web anywhere. So thank you for any help you can shine on it.

You'll see pods on your rock before you can see them in the sb. Also check your canister filter for pods, they may be getting sucked up. The fish could also be eating them.
Here's a great idea for a HOB refugium if your ever interested. I've been running one on my tank for 2yrs. Love it!

Well my canister pick up is avout mid tank back corner. Away from most of the rock work. Last I cleaned the filter system I didn't notice anything in there other then dirty water. I will check that link out in just a few from my pc. I didn't know they lived on the rocks. Thoygh it was sand bed only things.

Definitely set up a refugium if you can, even an in tank one. I would buy a bag/bottle of pods to start the process out.
