Copepods

So I have a 20 gallon nuvo reef aquarium. It’s been set up now for about 2-3 months, I really wanted to have a mandarin in there so I’ve been exploring ways to allow any introduced copepods to reproduce. What I ended up doing was hanging an AquaClear 70 filter on the side and turning it into a fuge. About a week and a half ago I added a bottle of pods from my local fish store and the next night I saw them all over the glass. Then out of nowhere I stopped seeing them. So I decided to added algae barns 5,200+ pack of pods as well. I put half in the display tank and put the rest in my AquaClear filter. Still didn’t see any results. So I added another bag of pods, thinking maybe I messed something up. But still nothing. Is it possible that they are so small I’m not seeing them right now ? I only have 2 clown fish.

Have you turned on a flashlight at night to look for them? We have them in our 32 and they vanish and hide in the rocks in the DT and cheato in the sump.

Yeah that’s how I managed to see them originally, it’s so strange lol. Almost everywhere I read I see others saying you’ll see them on the glass , so I figured I’d at least see some. I’ve added a lot lol

I thought all of ours was gone after we lost all our fish, got a little alge on the glass and hundreds came out crawling on the glass. We put in a couple of clowns and a yellow goby and they vanished again. Hiding, but I know they are there.

I was just gonna mention that too, I’m dealing with a brown hair algae issue on the rocks . I solved the issue by slowing down dosages of phyto and adding crabs to eat what has already grown. Is it possible that the pods burrowed into the rock due to the algae being there ?

You don't want a mandarin....if you have any LR....they'll hide 99% of the time

To see copepods you need a RED 600-700nm light at 2-3am to see them dancing around the surface of the LR.

White light, they disappear into micro holes
