can anyone help me with the relationship or needs between copopods, rotifers, and phytoplankton, do they all need each other or can copopods make it without the other, any good explanation would help the confusion, and cost.

I believe they make it on their own without rotifers or phyto being added. I haven't added any phyto for the last 3~ months and my pods are still in the thousands. Never added rotifers either.

I'm just wondering, I want to try to have the tank self sustained, not having to feed or as little as possible. minimal water changes and just dosing as needed. that's why I'm inquiring about the rotifers and phyto

We can feed phyto, everyone likes phytoplankton.
Rotifers I use only for fish baby fry initial food.
POD population increases faster when phyto is available.

That is why I am a big advocate for people feeding Phyto instead of constantly buying pods

I was buying it but something tells me there is a Poseidon reef phyto kit under the tree. May end up selling a bit to supplement my hobby.
