I am fortunate enough to own two Red Sea Reefer 425 XL's. One is a fresh and the other is a salt. This weekend I plan to break down the fresh and move those fish to my office tank. This will leave one of the Reefer 425's empty. Coincidentally I have Ich in my saltwater tank. (I know...I know..I'm an idiot and should have quarantined.)

My plan is to move all my saltwater fish into the newly empty 425 and dose them with copper. It will run it with no rock or sand, just water at the right temp and maybe a little bit of media in the sump. No protein skimmer either. And lights out! My main saltwater tank will remain fallow for the 76 days. I will continue to run UV sterilizer on the fallow tank. I will throw away the media in the hospital tank once the process is done.

My main question is, since there is no rock or sand going into this "hospital" tank, will I have residual copper that may soak into the PVC plumbing and/or silicone? I was told today that I wont be able to use this tank as a reef tank ever again. Is that true?

Can anyone shed some light on this claim? Any tips and tricks for this move is also appreciated.

Thanks!
