I am considering purchasing a Copper banded Butterfly to control Aptasia glass anemones.Has anyone had good success with these fish for this use? I have had them before and unfortunately have had difficulty just keeping them alive (maybe because they were stressed by other fish) and not seen them disturb inverts or such. I have heard they may go after anemones other than aptasia and also dusters etc.
I have Rose BTA,S , dendros and rock anemones and would hope these are not the focus of this fish.

Odds are, the fish will not survive for long and the Aptasia will keep multiplying. I and others have had some success with filefish but still a gamble because some eat them and some don't.

CBBs are great fish. I had one for years. Happy and Healthy.. then out of nowhere.... dead. No idea what killed it. It had a ravenous appetite for feather dusters... but not Aptasia. It did not touch anything else. It ate any worms you gave it....and mysis.

If you Aptasia isn't out of control.... suggest you manually remove or use kalk paste or lime juice injection to kill.

I have tried a file fish and he didn't go after aptasia but loved my zoos and acans. i wondered why my gorgs were always closed and it was him as well. At least he was easy to catch which is always a concern if I am not sure about a fish. I once added a lemon peel Angel and I had to break my whole 250 gallon aquarium to get that SOB out.

Putting a fish in for Aptasia is a pain in my experience. The best thing that worked for me is Aptasia X. Do you have a LOT of the aptasia or just a few?

I control them using AptasiaX but they get out of control after being away for a while etc. My aquarium is also quite deep (96x30 -250gal) and I have some difficulty treating the deep ones. It brings up another question- are there devices that allow for the proper application of Aptasia X (small drops/amounts) down at the bottom of the aquarium?
