Hello. I got my ICP test results back yesterday and it has showed some copper contamination. Other than two MP40, every single thing in the tank is brand new - only been set up for 4 months. I took apart my MPs and I think I see what looks like rust on both wet sides. One has some rust like staining at the top of the propeller shaft and the other has some coating on the magnet worn off showing some rust. My best guess is that this is the cause of the copper?
What is the best way to get rid of this? I have read about Cuprisorb and carbon in conjunction with a large water change. Anything else I need to do?
One other thing I have read is that once copper is detected in the tank that the rock and sand is practically unusable and should be pulled. Is that accurate or am I misunderstanding it?
FYI - I have been doing monthly ICP tests for the past three months and this is the first one that has shown copper.
My SPS frags have been going downhill over the last week or two. Bleaching out, little to no PE and some have RTN’ed literally overnight. Other than that all other corals (euphyllia, acans, zoas chalices) are doing great. All the fish and inverts don’t seem to be affected at all.
I appreciate any advice!
