Copper In Make-Up Water

Albeit low at 0.06 ppm according to Hanna. This is coming out of my RO/DI (5-stage) and is the water I do my water changes with. As some of you know, I have already been battling copper infusion in my DT for quite some time (currently at 0.09/Hanna). But given the +/- 0.03 error factor, are my make-up water numbers high enough to really worry about or should I throw some Cupisorb in a filter sock to get it down some more?

I'm surprised that you are getting copper out through a 5 stage RO/DI system. I assumed, emphasis on assumed, that the RO or the DI would take any copper out of the water.

Side question; do you have copper plumbing in the house?

I think you are at the lower range of the test. I doubt you have a copper problem.

In answer to the first question, I’m on well water in Southeast CT. And, yes, there is copper piping in the house.

Question: Does Spectapure make any type of copper removal specific insert for its RO/DI unit?

I’m not sure. You could send them an email. If it were my tank I would get an ICP test to measure coppper levels. It’s very strange to me to have measured copper out of a ro unit.

The copper should be removed by the carbon filter on your RO/DI setup. If you don't have a carbon filter on your setup, that's the problem. If you do have a carbon filter, it's very likely saturated and should be changed out.

I would worry about any copper in the new water. Over time, that will build up until it reaches levels that will impact the tank. That's assuming you aren't running carbon or the like on the DT, of course. But better to catch it going in rather than after it's in.
