Hello again everyone, I just recently set up my hospital tank and I was reading on the copper that carbon will take the copper out of the water. I was told to grt a hang on back filter for the tank and the packs they come with have carbon in them. So will this take the copper out or will it be okay?

depends on the copper you get. Each one will specify. Cupramine will get removed with carbon. If the filter pad comes with carbon in it do not use it. You can buy filter pads that you can cut to size or you can use a different filter material

I would suggest just removing the filter pads for the duration of treatment. Generally speaking, carbon will remove pretty much any medication you add to the system. Once treatment is finished, put the filter pads back in to help clear it out of your QT.

+1 on removing the pads with carbon and just using a plain sponge or something similar. You should be testing copper levels every day during ramp up, or every other day after that, to ensure you are maintaining therapeutic levels, and if you leave the carbon in you might see that it’s bring your levels down.

When I run copper I use a HOB that has a plastic grate that the factory filter cartridges sit in. I just pull the cartridge and pack that great with cheap fibrous stuffing from a craft store. I change it almost daily because it fills up quick let but it definitely keeps the floating debris out of the tank.
