So my friend got ich in his main display (200 gallons) we removed all rocks and started dosing Cupramine. the concentration was at .23 i went over and saw there was a lot of sand and detritus still on the bare bottom so i suctioned out as much as i could and probably did a 10% water change. i then dosed a bit more copper. a few hours later copper tested at .39 and we left it that way.

two days later one tang is on its side and he calls me and says that i should have done the water change with copper in it already that adding fresh saltwater could have been what killed the tang. Is that even possible at that concentration with that much water volume? i know that if your dosing copper you dont want the copper to jump down mid treatment but can fish get shock from that situation?

While you should ensure that water going in from a water change should be matched to water already in the system, with a 10% change I don't believe it would cause harm. Not two days later anyway. Are you sure it is Cryptocaryon and not something that causes faster death?

Looks like ich rest of the fish are fine so far, only the powder blue looked stressed so far.

Could be an ammonia issue,, as it takes time to build copper resistant bacteria cultures just as it takes time to cycle a tank
