Hello,

As some of you may recall, I had an ich and "unknown" disease break out in my DT, so I tore it apart, put all the fish in my QT and started treatment. They have been in there for a little over a month in a copper solution. I did lose some, unfortunately - my anthias and most of my wrasses (though my exquisite and leopard wrasse have thus far escaped the same fate!). For those of you who recall the pictures of the weird unknown disease on one of my Talbot damsels, she made a full recovery and has no symptoms anymore. I'd still say that it was likely viral, but who knows. Strangest thing I'd ever seen....

Onto my dilemma... I have been trying to pull the copper out of the water since a bit before the 30-day mark, but can't seem to get it all out. It hovers around .25 - .3. I have done 2 water changes (of roughly 25% each), added carbon, added metalzorb, and just added cuprazorb.

*sigh*

I monitored the copper levels a few times a day and never had a level that was unsafe, so I am confused as to why I can't get this last stubborn bit out (I've tried 3 tests and they all show about the same). I wonder if it's the dish of sand that I had to put in there for my leopard wrasse? Perhaps it's leaching it back into the water?

Nonetheless, it seems that the water changes have had the biggest impact on removing the copper thus far. I guess my concern is that if I continue to do water changes with the same frequency, I will be stressing the fish out from water parameter changes.

Has anyone else had this problem, and how big/frequent can I do the water changes before it gets too stressful and causes harm? I don't want my fish bathing in copper any longer than necessary.

Interesting... I've never seen this product in Canada, but it might be worth checking out.

No, I don't have any LR in my QT. I did put in a small plastic cave/plant for my tang. That could be the issue that's causing the leaching as well... if it continues despite another water change, I'll consider pulling them out, but it provides shelter to my shy fish and my tang sleeps there so I'd rather not unless it's necessary...

I agree, those poly filters are great. As long as the temp and SG of the water matches then you can do water changes daily if you need to.

polyfilter, carbon, cuprisorb, and massive water changes, two nearly 90% for me did it. The water changes were one week apart.

Worked wonders. After the one week mark replace and remove all media.
