Copperband breathing rapidly and from one gill

Hey folks I’ve had this Copperband for about four weeks

I was able to wean him onto mysis and other foods successfully and he’s been healthy and fine until tonight when I noticed he’s only breathing from one gill and rapidly


Any thoughts?

I’ve dosed prazi prepping a water change but I’ve had 3 20% changes in the last 10 days

Ammonia has been zero for months and months but did just show as .08 with a Hanna checker but I’m not sure if I can trust that

Is there a reason you were treating with Prazi?
In addition , if this is gill flukes, you did not treat long enough as you want to apply initial dosage known as an interval for 8 days, do a water change and do one more 8 day dose interval and also add an airstone with prazi as it does reduce both oxygen and appetite

I've seen the one gill issue in some fish, but not CBB. I don't know what causes it. I wonder if it isn't flukes though - gill infections from flukes always infect both gills, so why would one gill stop working?

Is it still eating?

Thanks for the response

This morning it's eating both live brine and frozen mysis and breathing out of both gills and swimming around normally

I'm not sure what the issue was, or if it still persists, but I try to jump on these things as soon as I can because when these fish start laying on their side on the sand it's all over.

I will continue with water changes ...in my exp cleaner, fresher water tends to make everything better
