I have a CBB that I’ve had in my tank for about 3-4 weeks. He’s eating great and seems to be doing well. I noticed some “white” patches on one side today. I pulled him out and was planning to do a fresh water dip and then quarantine with cupramine. When I did the freshwater dip the patches showed up as “black”. I also see the “sesame seeds” at the bottom of the bucket. I’ve now put him in quarantine and I’m looking for suggestions. Is this flukes? And if so, what’s the treatment? Is it contagious and should I be worried about my dt fish?

White patches on CBBs especially should be viewed with great suspicion.

CBB do much better with a chelated copper like Copper Power. Cupramine can be tough on them.

Sesame seeds like debris is usually an indicator of flukes.

The danger with CBBs is bacterial infection. It usually presents as red sores on their sides. And by the time the red sores show it usually is too late. So it's real important to avoid the bacterial infection of red sores. NFG powder is a must have for these fish if you need to try to treat bacterial infections. They tend to go sideways real fast. So to avoid the bacterial infections, I highly recommend NOT using cupramine. It lowers the fish's immune system too much allowing infection to get a hold of the fish.
