Copperband Butterfly vs Yellow Tang

I'm thinking about getting a Copperbamd for a serious aiptasia outbreak that I've had but I'm wondering how my yellow tang would take a liking to that? Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Why not get an ORA Filefish? I remember reading they eat auptasia as well.

Yellow tangs may allow a copperband in the tank, or they may behave aggressively towards it. Try utilizing a social acclimation box to introduce the copperband.

Why not get an ORA Filefish? I remember reading they eat auptasia as well.

Any filefish that I have used to control aiptasia eventually moved on to nipping at brain corals.

Somewhat recently, I put a CBB in a tank with a Yellow Tang. Let's just say the YT was none too happy - at first. I actually had the CBB in an acclimation box for a couple days prior to release. The YT all but ignored it during that time. It was almost like it knew the CBB would one day be released in to the wild and then it would have it's chance!

I released the CBB in the evening at lights out. It went and hid. The next morning, the YT was all over it trying to prove who was boss. It took them about three days to finally make nice. There was a few times I thought I was going to have to remove one of them, but they eventually settled down.

Took the CBB about three weeks to develop it's appetite for aiptasia, but once it did, wow, what a terrific job it did getting rid of the pests.

Bottom line in my opinion...start in a acclimation box as TJ recommended above, and just keep an eye on them.

Also CBB are usually shy fish and easily stressed. +1 on some sort of acclimation box to get the cbb eating

You can use a 'critter cage' or fashion something together from eggcrate.

As others have said, you can use just about anything. This is the one I ended up getting.

I introduced a CBB with a yellow tang with no issue. However I also added a blue throat trigger at the same time so I think I reset the whole territory thing as the blue throat could care less who claims what and just goes wherever he wants.

My yellow tang isn't the one I am worried about as my six line is a complete a**. He kills anything smaller than him in the tank, diamond goby, pajama cards, etc. If my clownfish wasnt such a hoss he would probably be dead by now as well.

A shame about the 6-line. Mine was a model citizen for a couple of years. Loved the coloring and activity. But yeah, stories like yours pretty much assure I won't get another.

Whenever I've kept tangs with a CBB, the tang will usually try to intimidate by charging at them. Sometimes this subsides (or the CBB gets used to it); sometimes it causes the CBB to stop eating. Even worse when it happens with a MI, as sometimes they will refuse to resume eating after being bullied.
