i've had one in my system for over a year now without a problem.......but they are a alittle tricky because some of them are reef safe and some will start munching on acans or clams so you just have to watch them for awhile and if they start munching get them out......just make sure you see them eat before you buy them cause some of them will not eat frozen food and will starve themselves to death

Do not y a CBB if you don't see it eat at the store first.thet are reef safe but may develop a taste for scans and clams so watch the fish carefully so it doenst damage any corals.

yes they are picky eaters if you can get them to eat at all.i have had several CBB's over the years, most of them only ate mysis and or bloodworms.i had one that tried to eat a clam of mine and got caught by the clam,he only did that once.

I have had mine for over a year now and he doesn't eat anything I feed my fish. I only feed pellets and he doesnt touch them. He eats an aptaisia here and there when he can find one, but other then that he just eats pods or whatever else he finds in the rock. If you have a large enough system with lots of rock and pods etc. He will be fine just living off that. When I got him he was tiny and is now real big fat and healthy so it doesn't need to eat frozen if you have a large healthy Reef environment. However it does make things easier if it does.

Mine eats frozen food, primarily Rogger's Reef Food, the green and the regular. And aiptasia thankfully.

I also have a 300 gallon mixed reef with sps, chalices, and other LPS, and I have seen him nip at some of the acans before but he has never done any damage. It all depends on the fish I guess.

It will also help if he has some aptaisia to munch on as well. Mine took about 4 months before he ate a single aptaisia but when he finally did he cleared them right out. If he doesn't eat them right away give him time, he will figure it out eventually and eat them.

I have one that eats flake, pellet, frozen, aptasia, anything I feed my fish.... Did have a big problem the day I put him in... He killed my clam..:( besides that he's perfect... So I just gave up on clams and let him be for now.... I haven't seen a aiptasia since day one... That's something I am willing to sacrifice not having a clam for....

got one about 5 inches lond and man this dude can eat the guy at the lfs showed me he eats frozen foog let see what happins

I need a cure for the aptaisa my 240g cube is getting takin over!!! i put in 18 Peperments and have not seen the shrimp since BC i have about 400lb of rock and it all getting covered in aptaisa !!! They are starting to kill a few of my coral and i gotta do something I want a CBB but am scared as I have Clams from 2" to 12" and would be sick to loose any of them and i also have LPS out the yang
So is the File fish or CBB the better choice ????? for a tank with tons of LPS and Clams

Remove the tang or CBB and put him in the sump for now.if I were you I would find a home for the tang or butterfly, which ever you want the least.also you didn't give any tank info.how big is the tank?what fish are in it?CBB' and yellow tangs usually will fight, even more so IMO when adding the butterfly to a tank with an exsisting yellow tang.the tang is territorial and sees the butterfly as competition for his food.FWIW I would pass on buying such a large CBB since they have a horrible track record in captivity.I like to find small CBB's in the 1.5-2" range, that are fed in store before they come home.QTing the fish also helps them transition to the display since you can get them eating good before introducing the fish to the display.
