I am in final transfer of TTM for a copperband and 11 chromis. Through out transfers I have lost 4 chromis. Each chromis that died went through same pattern, fine and eating one day, lethargic on floor and breathing heavy next day, and dead next day.

I was not sure how to diagnose the chromis issue as there are no physical signs of anything and all fish are active, not shy, and eating well.

Today from top down I noticed discoloration on the copperband on one side. I have seen him scratch against surfaces a few times through out TTM as well. Worried this could be velvet, and trying to determine whether to proceed with a CP treatment. If anyone could help ID what this is, it would be very helpful. Thank you!

It could be an injury but since you mentioned chromis dying suddenly in the same tank - It could be uronema. Did the chromis have any wounds in them?

I would give the copperband a rally bath followed by metro treatment

+1 combined with the “mysterious” chromis deaths I would say it’s almost certainly uronema.

Rally bath, and metroplex both in the water column (at the higher dosage of 2 scoops per 10g) AND soaked with food/focus (1 scoop metro + 1 scoop focus per tablespoon frozen food), since uronema often spreads internally also.

Also be VERY, VERY careful not to cross contaminate with your DT. Once uronema gets into a display, there is no easy or painless way to get it out. It’s basically a full re-start.

No clue about the illness but looks like it scraped itself pretty good on the one side. I’d listen to ngoodermuth. She’s very knowledgeable :) good luck
