I purchased my first CBB 9 days ago. Large size. Looks healthy except for some white spots / cotton looking growth on side fin (should I worry about this or will it go away?)

The CBB hasn't eaten for 8 days (that I can tell) but has picked at some live rock I added to QT. So far I haven't medicated him - just trying to get some food into him. I live in the country of Georgia where I can't get Mysis or frozen brine anywhere!!! In the last two days, the CBB starting eating Aiptasia like it's candy.

Is Aiptasia sufficient nutrition to sustain a CBB? I have a large DT to move him too once he's out of QT and have let the Aiptasia go a few weeks to give the CBB a head start once I move him over. In time, I need to find a way to convert him over to dry, other frozen foods, but have no options for mysis/brine - other than fresh hatched brine.

Is it necessary to qt this copper band if I go 2-3 weeks without observing anything strange? I'd like to keep him eating, and don't want to medicate with something (copper) that would kill the live rock in QT. (I know that I can't use copper in the QT with live rock).

Thoughts?

1. IMHO no aiptasia is not sufficient nutrition - try LRS frozen food - mine eats it like crazy (its surprising how much it can fit Ito its small mouth)
2. Large spots can be lympohcystis - which should improve. Are the spots on the body or the fins?
3. You do not need to feed fresh hatched brine to a large copper band. They will eat shrimp, etc etc - thats only finely chopped..
4. I would get some whitefish - finely chop it and try that - or shrimp - finely chopped and try that...

Edit - btw - I mean human whitefish/shrimp. I think you are using too small of foods. Is there any place in Georgia where you can buy frozen fish food (brine shrimp is not great either)

I can only find (3) types of frozen food here. Daphnia, bloodworms, and gammarus (???)

I suspect the spots are Lymphocystis...spots are on the one side fin. It wasn't there on arrival, but appeared a few days later.

Shrimp - as in regular fresh/frozen shrimp (the kind we humans eat?).

Whitefish - what do you mean? I'm not sure what whitefish is?

I have ordered in some Masstick and tried that. He hasn't touched it yet, but started eating Aiptasia like crazy the last couple days, so I may stick another small piece of rock in the QT with some masstick nearby and see if I can coax him to eat.

I should add that a local meat dealer is importing in some fresh (nonboiled/nonblanched) mussel in shell next week. Will give that a try also (after freezing it to kill any parasites).

Yes - human 'fish/shrimp'
