Looking to purchase a copperband for aiptasia. I've tried peppermints and filefish with no luck. Looking to get a copperband with a good chance of eating it. I know it's case by case but looking to see where I would have the best luck at ordering one and having it eat it.

I don't know about getting one that is eating aiptasia... sometimes it is difficult to get one that eats anything at all!! I recently purchased one from Humblefish, that was not only fully quarantined, but pre-trained on frozen foods and to eat from my fingers to avoid being out-competed. Talk about customer satisfaction!

All the Coppers Iv'e had made quick work of apastia .

You all have one of them for sale? :D

They really are hit n miss with aiptasia, but with most butterflies just getting them to eat period and not die after a week is the biggest challenge for the majority.

Best bet is get one from an Lfs that you can see in person. I would and ne or have attempted to order one online, it's a gamble.

The only problem with that is any lfs is going turn have them on frozen which means they likely won't eat aiptasia. Also most lfs won't have aiptasia in there tanks to feed it and if they do it's Petco and I'm not buying one from them lol. I would rather take my chances with one not eating frozen with the hopes it will take out aiptasia

That isn't true, they will still eat aiptasia. The problem is you think they will prefer aiptasia and unfortunately that just is not the case. They may or may not eat them and I'd they do Its not like they eat it non stop they pick at the rocks all day for pods more than anything

A healthy and eating cbb from Petco is still a fine purchase...

Why not get berghia nudibranch's? That is the one and only thing they eat.

Iv'e never run across an apastia nudibranch at a Lfs . Pretty much all apastia's eaters have draw backs. The nudis will starve, The shrimps are hit or miss like the files. So are Copper's & they are tricky at first & might not eat the pests & get too big for smaller tanks. I put two pep shrimps in my 75, oh a month ago, haven't seen either since. I don't even know if they are alive .

Ya most likely will not find nudis at an lfs. Have to order them and they are very expensive or find some on craigslist like i did lol

But yes they will starve and die once all aiptasia is gone.

I just lost mine a week short of one year. I have no aiptasia but it ate littleneck clams like a boss until three weeks ago; one night it ate like a pig and the next night it wouldn't eat anything. Three weeks later, it was too weak to survive. I'm guessing aggresion from another fish is what caused it to stop eating but I dont really know. That was my first copperband in 20+ years and it will be my last; not worth killing 'em.

I wouldn't recommend just getting one for Aiptasia as they are hit and miss with eating it. You could try a laser pointer instead. Just watch out for the corals.

I have tried the lasers and I have tried nudis. The nudis did great for a short time but I think my powerheads were a little to strong since I mainly have sps and yes they are expensive.

Copper and is the one fish I have to buy from local store. I just have to make sure it’s eating fine before I take it home. Buying online gives you very little chance of success and for me it has been 0%. I right now have three in my system and all were purchased locally.

What's up with the laser pointer? Can you explain a little? This is the first I heard of this.

I’ve heard if the won’t eat them you can spot feed on the aiptasia. My only aiptasia. I throw 6 peppermints in a 125 went over kill on them. Returned them in 2 days. Side note though they also took out a large frog spawn head as well be having to catch them all witch was easy. They where savages

I tried 2 Peppermint for my Apstasia. They would eat the pop up babies for the first few weeks but they wouldn't touch the big ones. Then they stopped eating the babies and I got a Hammer which was gone in 2 days. I have since trapped them using the 2 liter and rehomed them to my sump. I will be looking at getting a cbb after my vacation for Memorial week.
