So I just got two purple tangs in there in my 40 gallons breeder 2" sand Bed secondary tank/QT and they look like they broke out in ich. So I am going to dose with the sandbed has anybody had this experience with sandbeds and copper? What do I need to look at for? I'm going to use 60ML over 2 days 30ML today and tomorrow how bad will the sand absorb the copper?

Sand will likely be fine. Make sure you test. Preferably with Hanna checker.

I can also about guarantee you if you dose 60ml into a 40b. You will overdose your fish.

Also if you are keeping just two purple tangs. One is likely going to kill the other. @4FordFamily

its a 40 gallon breefer with a 15 to 20 gallon sump so I estimatered 48 gallons at 5ml per 4 gallons comes out to 60 ML. Also the two pruples have been togather for years got them off a local reefer.

That is very, very uncommon to have two purples coexisting alone like that. Anything is possible but that could suddenly end badly. How large are they?

they are say medium size 4" to 5" one is little bit smaller than the other. They swim togather and hide togather so will see they are going into a 180 with some other tangs so it will be a project to see what happens if they survie the ich outbreak they are pretty health looking nice and fat.

Also I think my sump is 15 gallons and is half full with pump and skimmer so let say maybe 5 gallons so I might just got with 40 gallons so 50ml I aready dosed 30mm today will do 20 tomarrow there is a Fairy wrasse and clown fish with them.

Zebrasoma aren’t very sensitive to ich unless weak, my guess is you’re actually dealing with velvet. Pics?

Well the Fairy wrasse and the clown have been in there for over month and the fairy wrasse was going to through some wierd issue but had no visable deases signs signs and the tangs came from another reefers 120 who said he has had them in there for a year and half. So not sure were the vevlet would have came form unless its in my main tank when I do water changes I use the 180 for the 40 gallons water changes so thay the match. Did just have nasso tang die from what looked like agression and not eating but he was skinny when I got him and he was in there for a couple months and got a horribe gash and died what looked like an infection but nobody has any spot or visble signs in the 180.

the tank is cloudy right now form removing the live rocks but soon has it gets clear I will take a couple of pics.

Well if it velevetI just went ahead and dosed to 50ml because I read velvet can kill fast but all fish they have been in contact have been alive for over a month and with the water from my main.

Oh yeah that’s velvet. Act quickly as it’s a fast killer

Noticed like a spot or so on friday/saturday than they had them all over on sunday.

Were the heck did it come from did I have some dormant strain? Everything I have read says it kills fast so it had to off come from the reefer I bought the fish from. Because I had a Ringtail Tail in the 40 Gallon QT for over a month before I put the ringtail in the DT and he shows no signs off anything or any other fish in the DT since he been in there for 2 weeks now. The clown has been in the 40 QT for ever too and no signs of anything so far.

If I had to guess you didn’t fully quarantine something wet — coral, inverts, fish, etc.

Well the newest fish was the clown and the ringtail which was in the QT for 3 weeks to 4 weeks bought him off a reefer never showed any signs of any disease. The fairy wrasse is little older and it been fight something for over month the ringtail almost ate him so he got banged up has been on the QT for ever.

Like I said water been coming from my DT to my QT. Last two fish that died from my DT tank was my rabbitfish who had some crazy ulcer and fin rot diesse that he was fighting for couple of months that also twisted his spine. Than there was my Nasso tang who also wasted away and died from a gash on his upper back area. They were both Quarantined for a month. So it could be on my DT and the current fish or not symptomatic.

Fish currently in my DT

Ringtail surgeon
Red sea Sailfin
Very Small yellow belly hippo
2 bellus angels
Midas blenny
Bi color blenny
Allen damsel
2 clowns
Azure damsel.

Has for the purple gangs are still alive. QT been treated with copper safe and did a fresh water dip last night spots have died down since the dip so will see how they are doing when I get home from work. Read that General cure is good to mix with copper since it has metro which has been kown to aid treatment of ich and velvet.

Well its Day 3 spots are back all over not sure if it is Velevet or Ich. I dosed on sunday not sure if I should do I fresh water dip again or what going to check the copper levels to see if the sand absobred some of it.
