Hi, I need a little advice. I have been using Mardel Coppersafe in my 30 gal QT for a month now. My question is what's the best way to remove to remove the coppersafe? My fish are going to have to stay in the QT for another 45 day or so because an ick outbreak in the DT.

Cuprazorb might work well? I use it to remove cupramine and it works quickly. It's a different type of copper though, so I'm not sure if it works well with chelated copper or not? A general metal absorber would work - they sell ones that can be regenerated and reused. Poly filter and carbon as well.

Cuprasorb or a PolyFilter pad. Both will suck out copper.

I would do a 50% water change, wait 2-3 days, do it again and then start running the removal media.

Thanks. I think this is the route I'm going to take.

Do you know that works with coppersafe, which is already chelated to an organic,a nd hence needs to shed its current chelating organic to bind to these?

The reason I didn't answer so far is I do not know.

Yes, that's what I was wondering as well. I only use cupramine and it's not chelated, so removal methods may be different.

I'd say water changes are the best bet. Carbon won't hurt either way. How big is the tank? Would a series of water changes be feasible??

You know, I'm not 100% sure. Seachem claims Cuprisorb removes chelated copper but who knows how accurate that is. Is it possible that the chelating process used by Cuprisorb is stronger than what's used with Coppersafe, causing the copper ions to 'jump ship' to the Coppersafe?

I know I've had very good luck using a Poly Filter pad (which also claims to absorb chelated copper in salt water) in the past, lowering copper in a contaminated tank from 2ppm to 0ppm in 48hrs.

I did huge water change in two days ( 30 gal qt ) , probably changed 25 gal or so . After we I put polyfilter in my hob. 7 days later copper reading is around 0.1 ppm to 0 ppm..

Yes that is certainly possible. :)

I been reading this discussing and was curious if you guys could help me. I mistakenly added a pipe of brass into my return pump. I said mistakenly cause I was told at the hardware store it will be fine to use it with salt water since I didn't know anything about metals. I try everything i could to get my tank right and finally after reading and reading I notice that my issue was the brass fitting, Now my question is how can I remove this contamination from my sand, rocks and water? I have been running red sea activated carbon for 4 weeks now, I place a Green branchin monti but 3 days later is showing signs of not opening anymore.
Please help me since I am running out of hope. I dont want to spend another $1000 dollars or so buying new sand and rocks again.
