Good Evening,

I recently brought home two ocellaris clown fish who developed regular ich overnight. The tank is a brand new 20 gal that had finished cycling and the two clown fish are the only fish in it. As directed by my lfs I used Coppersafe in my dt, and after 4 days my clowns seem much happier and are cleared of all white spots but ive been noticing an increase in little black blotches. I do not have any sea anemones or corals that would wound them but the tank they were in previously had a few anemones. I believe it is black ich as a few more spots popped up, but I'm not sure if I should wait the month that it takes for Coppersafe to end or if I should put the carbon back in my filter to get out the Copper and then use Prazipro for the black ich? I don't believe Coppersafe treats black ich... Also, I dosed only 18 mL of CS into the tank despite the label saying 5mL for every 4 gallons as I've heard Coppersafe can be a bit too strong as recommended.

Thank you for any advice and I do apologize if any of this seemed informal I'm new to this all!

Welcome to R2R.
For the Coppersafe to completely rid the fish of Ich/Velvet it has to be dosed to therapeutic levels for at least 15 days and then transferred to a clean, sterile tank for observation, or remain in the original dosed tank for 30 days. But you need to measure the copper concentration. The best way to not under dose or over dose the copper is to use a Hanna HL Copper Checker. Those color matching kits are horribly unreliable. I know the Hanna costs more than the color matching kits, but it is a good investment and lowers your stress and the fish's stress. Highly recommend them.

You can "safely" dose Prazipro into the tank with the copper as long as you do a couple of things. Prazipro has a chemical in it that absorbs oxygen from the water. It can interfere with the fish's ability to breath. So the tank needs lots of oxygen added. A powerhead aimed up at the surface so that it is actively rippling the water surface provides the greatest O2 exchange. Also adding a foam bubble filter for both filtration and O2 is a good idea. Lots of O2.

Thank you for the response. I'll have to go out and grab a hanna Copper Checker, but what is considered to be therapeutic as I've seen varying answers on here?

Think i read something about tougher strains of ich/velvet and the new recommended dosage is 2.5
