Ok, so I have been waiting on my Hanna Copper checker, and when I got a new batch of fish, I dosed 2.5ml/4 gallons of coppersafe (I dosed 7ml total in 17.5 gallons). Turns out that was 1.35 ppm.

How do I calculate how much I need to add to get to 1.75ppm?

1.35ppm / 7ml = .19ppm per ml dosed into your 17.5 gallons.

So basically for your given setup/bottle of coppersafe each ml you dose is .19ppm.

2ml should raise you another .38ml and get you darn close to 1.73ppm.

I'd dose one more ml and see if it tests 1.54ppm or how much it raises it.

That is a darn potent bottle you have there. Based on math, if you dosed that as instructed you would have reached a level of 4.0ppm or above. Likely toxic to your finned friends!

Darned Coppersafe. So unreliable to do calculations with. Based on your results using the Hanna, If it was my tank, I'd add another .5 ml, wait a couple of hours and then use the Hanna. That should get you real close to 1.5ppm which is the lower end of therapeutic range. I really like the Hanna for "creeping up" to therapeutic level thanks to @HotRocks ^^^;)

so 1ml didn't move the reading at all. added 1 more ml last night, seeing what the reading is as soon as I get my butt up and do the test.

Just tested. 1.71. That's 9ml added to 17.5 gallons of water. Had I added the recommended 5ml per 4 gallons, I would have added 21.875ml of coppersafe to my tank. If 9ml has me at 1.71ppm then almost 22 would have had me way over toxic levels.

At least if I'm understanding correctly. As @HotRocks said, I'm getting 0.19 ppm out of 1ml of coppersafe.

I do have a small bottle of Copper Power now, but given that I have the Hanna checker and reagents on the way, there's no need to do a water change. a simple 5g water change in my QT now is 1ml of Coppersafe to the new water (it's actually 0.95 ml) but 1ml won't drastically change the number.

Good plan. Had coppersafe in my QT at the time my Hanna HL Copper Checker arrived. It saved my new fish. The coppersafe dose was near toxic levels even though the API test kit showed it to be ok. So glad to be using the Hanna. :)

2.5ml will need to be dosed to your 5 gallon water change. To match what you have going currently. Just FYI

We add copper to the new water during a water change, so that the level of copper in the tank never drops below therapeutic treatment levels. Always add the copper to the incoming water, as if the level drops below therapeutic, the copper/QT countdown begins anew.

Confused. Explain please.

Step one, have your newly mixed saltwater in bucket ready to go.

Step two, dose 2.5ml to your new 5 gallons of SW and mix well.

Step three, remove 5 gallons from aquarium.

Step four, add newly mixed/copper dosed water to aquarium

This allows you to do a WC without ever changing the copper level in the tank.

Oh I got it. I was doing math wrong. If I dosed 9ml to 17.5 that is 0.51 x 5 is 2.5.

All good. Sometimes it takes me a moment to catch up

No problem! I just wanted to make sure you didn't lower your Cu level to the point you had to restart the clock!
