Trying to figure out what I did wrong. Got two nice piece and acclimated them to tank temp for about 30 min. Then added them to a gallon of said tanks water. My alk and sellers are very similar. Just before placing the corals I added the proper amount of revive to the water. After 5 min. I added the frags to the tank. By that afternoon one was totally white save a little color as can be seen.
Here is the frag as it came out of the bag to be added to tank water.

then a pic of coral after about 5 hrs in the tank.

It’s totally white now. It’s on the bottom of tank in ,ow light.
The other one came out nice for two days and then started to lose its meat/ skin. It’s all white now too.

I understand it’s a tough question but what did I do wrong? I am not questioning or blaming the seller. The coral came to me in good shape and packed well and warm in the package. My alk is 9.1, cal is 425 and mag around 1400.
Phos is around .03 and nitrates are between 5 and 10. Salinity is ok as is water temp. Tank is low to moderate flow down low. Just don’t want to buy more coral to just kill it. By the way I kept temp of water stable during all this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jim

How close is "very similar"? How close are you to your sellers nutrient levels, calcium, Salinity, magnesium, alkalinity. How much revive was added to that gallon of water? How long did it sit in that unheated uncirculated gallon?

It’s hard to dip corals when they’re already being shipped. They were stressed enough during the shipment and the dip just made them go. You didn’t do anything wrong

No idea about the cal and mag or salinity. Alk was almost the same.
floated the acclimation container in the tank to keep water temp stable. I added the instructed amount less about 30%.

@bobssecrtsn has a good point, an already stressed coral can be easily pushed over the edge. Alkalinity matching is just one cog though. An alk of 9 at 33ppt Salinity does not equal 9 alk at 35ppt and so on. With most softies and lps the dump and pray method can work (I do it myself) but sps is a little different, can be hit n miss.

I think I'm going to agree with Bob here and say the dip probably pushed them over the edge as the bleaching seams to have happened before they were placed in your tank.

The first frag looks like it was already losing tissue when you went from temp acclimation to new tank water. If so, might have sat in the bag too long warming up.

Anymore, if they look ok in the bag, I temp acclimate by dumping the bag into a Tupperware and immediately adding some of my tank water.

They've been sitting in a bag of their own excrement overnight with no flow. Raising the temp of that bowl of soup won't make it taste better.

All good points made by everyone but I hate revive for Acros. Bayer is the way to go for acros. The best approach is to get a qt tank or even a 5-10 gallon temporary tank to keep them in a couple days before you dip them. Dipping right out of the bag can be very stressful on them.
