Do you mean the ballooning? This happens to one of my goniopora from time to time. It almost looks like the entire tissue is coming off the skeleton. It usually happens after I've fed the fish. All of the polyps retract and the coral looks like that. In an hour its back to normal. So its hard to say whether this is 'normal' - but more information might help - like the age, parameters, temp, lighting, etc - the usual

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I found out my problem.
I double checked the accuracy of my red sea kh test kit… with a remaining Salifert I had.
My red sea shows 9.0 dkh while my salifert shows 15+ dkh…
When I switched to red sea I did a comparison check and found a difference of 1dkh.
Little did I know the difference got bigger over a few months.
I’m disappointed in red sea tests right now.

It looks to me like there is sand on top of the coral - as someone else said. I would brush that off perhps? Are you dosing something that would have caused your alkalinity to rise to 15? Are other corals, etc affected. I would make sure that all of your test kits are 'not expired' and that you're exactly following the directions. How often do you check your alkalinity? When you compare 1 test to another - there is really no way to know 'which one is correct'. If I were you - before making a decision, I would get a third test.

Well I did try to increase my kh in the past few months.
I dose kh as well and I think the red sea test was bad.
Havent found an expiration date.
I normally check my kh every week or so to make sure the doser doesn’t get out of control.
I have rhodactis that are folded up like on the picture and all zoas and acans are stretched like they want more sun. Today I found my blue damsel dead wich is the reason I started investigating. In fact also noticed that all other fish are breathing quite rapidly. I'm pretty darn certain it has nothing to do with o2 levels as well as amonia nitrates or phosphates because they are all within range. As for magnesium I Have it around 1500 because im battling algaes for a while now. (Recovering slowly from an undersized skimmer) calcium is high around 500 , I keep it high because I know it will start to drop when the corals start growing back and will adjust accordingly.
I will be buy back from salifert, I never had any problem with them for 20 years … I switched because my lfs told me I would be fine …with red sea and they were out of salifert kh test kits
Lesson learned.

I must add this ; every shrimps in my tank died.
Lost a tiger pistol shrimp, 3 peppermint shrimp and a lysmata debelius (fire shrimp). Pods are also dead…
Crabs, hermits and snails seems ok.
Fishes are slowing their breathing.
Corals that were affected seems to be better.
