Hello everyone
I’m fairly new to the hobby, currently enjoying a “ 50 gallon mixed reef “ predominantly LPS and soft corals. I’ve recently started searching for encrusting coral to add color variation. From what I read corals will always continue to grow and searching for ideal conditions. Eventually they will run out of space or grow into contact with each other. Every coral can’t always have 3-6 inches of free space and I don’t have the space for a series of island colonies.
Will over time will my new encrusting coals completely take over the tank? Will one win out? Or will they strike a balance?
The encrusting corals I’ve recently purchased are:
Multiple leptoseris and a Favities Pentogona.

Thanks

you will have to trim them back, or else watch them fight until one dies.

I've never seen a real reef in the ocean, but pictures and videos and tv often show just one coral covering miles and miles. Yesterday I saw some video that showed miles of red plating monitopora's. I expect it would be the same in our tanks if we left it.
